Round Rock Test Article

Quick Functional Test (Do This Now)

  1. Go to Posts โ†’ Add New
  2. Title it:
    โ€œRound Rock Test Articleโ€
  3. In the right sidebar, check the box for Round Rock under Community
  4. Publish

Now go to:

/community/round-rock/

If you see that post there โ€” your system is working.

Next: Make Sure Your Custom Post Types Work Too

Repeat the same test for one of your custom post types:

Example:

  • Add a Resource
  • Assign it to Round Rock
  • Publish
  • Visit /community/round-rock/

If it does NOT appear, that means:
Your custom post type is not set to show in taxonomy archives.

Thatโ€™s fixable โ€” but test first.

Important Editorial Rule Going Forward

Every piece of content must have:

1 Community selected

If you skip it, it wonโ€™t show anywhere local.

This becomes part of your publishing discipline.

Now letโ€™s zoom out strategically.

Right now you have:

Structure built
Communities created
Menu navigation working

You are officially ready to begin adding content.

Before you start adding a lot of content, one question:

Do you want:

โ€ข Community pages to mix all content types together (news + events + resources all in one stream)?

Or

โ€ข Community pages broken into sections (news section, events section, etc.)?

Mini Mischief Ranch: Where Animals, Laughter, and Community Come Together

Tucked between Hutto and Taylor, Mini Mischief Ranch is a hidden gem with a big heart. What started as Stacy Hamโ€™s dream to combine her love of animals with her passion for helping others has grown into a nonprofit 501(c)(3) โ€œcare farmโ€ thatโ€™s quickly capturing the communityโ€™s imagination.

At Mini Mischief, visitors donโ€™t hand out food or treats. Instead, the animals are known โ€” and loved โ€” for their personalities, their snuggles, and their craving for scratches and attention. โ€œItโ€™s about building genuine connection, not transactions,โ€ Stacy says. โ€œThe animals see people as friends, not food.โ€

โ€œI wanted to create a place where families could slow down, connect with animals, and connect with each other,โ€ she adds. โ€œMini Mischief is about joy, growth, and a little bit of silliness too.โ€

A Herd Full of Personality

From Rip and Roper, the mischievous best-friend goats, to Clover the gentle mini cow, to Buddy the pig who teaches lessons in inclusion (heโ€™s deaf, but full of personality), every animal at the ranch has a name, a story, and a role in making visitors feel welcome. Children often leave with a new โ€œfavorite,โ€ while adults find themselves laughing at the antics and touched by the quiet moments of connection.

More Than a Petting Zoo

Mini Mischief Ranch is intentionally different from a traditional petting zoo. Here, animals arenโ€™t viewed as attractions โ€” theyโ€™re family. Stacy doesnโ€™t allow feeding or treats during visits. Instead, the animals are raised to connect with people through affection and trust.

โ€œOur goats, cows, pigs, and donkeys know visitors for the scratches, pets, and attention they get โ€” not for food,โ€ Stacy explains. โ€œThat makes the interaction more meaningful. The animals truly crave love and companionship, and thatโ€™s what makes every visit special.โ€

Two unique enrichment programs bring young people closer to this philosophy of connection:

Farm Club (Elementary Students): Weekly adventures blending animal care, crafts, and STEM-style activities.

ROOTS Leadership Program (Middle & High School): Hands-on teamwork and responsibility lessons that help teens grow as leaders.

Stacy calls these โ€œfarm classrooms,โ€ where curiosity and character grow side by side.

A Mission of Care

Mini Mischief is also becoming a partner in therapy and special needs support. Stacy collaborates with therapists and educators to offer calm, private animal-assisted visits that encourage comfort and regulation. These visits are primarily funded through scholarships made possible by the income from general farm visits, ensuring that families with financial barriers can still benefit.

The ranchโ€™s recent approval as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit allows community members and businesses to support this mission directly, whether through donations or by joining the โ€œMini Mischief Guardiansโ€ sponsorship program to help care for specific animals.

Community Mischief

Beyond programs, the ranch hosts seasonal add-ons like scarecrow building, pumpkin carving, and rock art. Families can also book private visits by appointment, making each trip unique and personal.

A Place for Connection

For Stacy, Mini Mischief Ranch is about more than goats, pigs, and cows. Itโ€™s about cultivating connection โ€” to animals, to nature, and to each other. โ€œWhen people step onto the ranch, I want them to feel a little spark of wonder,โ€ she says. โ€œThatโ€™s where the mischief โ€” and the magic โ€” begins.โ€
